Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's professional players amongst our clientele. The former owner of this fine & rare instrument is jazz player who only plays Full Boehm type clarinets. The 9 was the last of the wide bore Selmer models, ideal for flexible playing, and equipped with all the "bells and whistles" to aid in fast passage work: Fork Eb/Bb, articulated C#/G#, LH Ab/Eb and a range to low Eb. The 9* was marketed by Selmer as "pour la musique symphonique", the 9 was "pour le jazz et les varietes." In other words the slightly smaller bore 9*, with undercutting, was aimed at the classical market, the wide bore 9 at the Jazz market.
This Bb clarinet has matching serial nos., S9770 which dates to 1962. The Nickel Silver plating is excellent throughout, with only slight wear to the G# key, & RH low Ab and F keys. The pads are all tan leather which are "as new" throughout. There are no cracks or repairs, the Grenadilla wood is in excellent condition. All pieces are matching and original. The case is elderly but fully functional.
