This is a good condition Selmer Series 9 Bb clarinet. The 9 was the last of the wide bore Selmer models, ideal for flexible jazz playing. This instrument features all the "bells and whistles": Fork Eb/Bb, alternative LH Ab/Eb, articulated C#/G# and low Eb. The 9* was marketed by Selmer as "pour la musique symphonique", the 9 was "pour le jazz et les varietes." In other words the slightly smaller bore 9*, with undercutting, was aimed at the classical market, the wide bore 9 at the Jazz market.
This Bb clarinet has matching serial nos., S3603, which dates to 1961. It is rare to find a Series 9 with Silver plating, this example is one such. The Silver plating is good throughout, but there is wear, mainly to the ring fingers. The wood shows some surface marks and scratches, but there are no cracks or repairs. All pieces are matching and original. The instrument has just had a full overhaul, in fish skin pads, and is sold with our industry leading 1 year warranty. The case is in very good condition, as is the supplied Selmer C85 120 m'piece.
