SELMER, PARIS, BASS CLARINET TO LOW Eb, £1745 |
|||||||
This is a fair condition Selmer Paris Bass Clarinet in Grenadilla wood, to low Eb, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The last former owner is a UK based amateur Bass clarinettist who has just bought a Buffet Bass to low C. The Selmer Paris Bass is considered the finest in the World due to its excellent ergonomics, and automatic double overblowing vent for the second register. This particular example has had several modifications in the course of an eventfull life! The Nickel Silver key work is in fair condition, with only minor wear, the plating shows some "brassing" commensurate with the age of this instrument, but at some point the LH F/C key has been replaced with an unplated touch piece, see photos 6 & 7. There are no cracks or repairs to the Grenadilla wood though it shows minor surface scratches and marks. One of the rear sling hook holders is also missing. The bell is not original, but it fits the lower tenon well, and shows no dents or other damage. The Selmer crook is normally sleeved and adjustable, but this example has a collar repair over the adjustable part of the crook. This Bass has just had a thorough "check down" in our workshop and has been regulated. The pads are used, but still serviceable, again, any that needed changing were replaced in our workshop. There is a floor peg attachment to the bell. The matching serial nos. are V4262 which dates to 1968. The case is much used, and has string repairs to the handle. The m'piece is a used Selmer B*. In summation: This Selmer Bass would suit a professional on a budget, who is not overly concerned over cosmetic issues. |
