SELMER PARIS, PROFESSIONAL BASSET HORN in F, 4995

This is a very good condition Selmer Basset Horn in Grenadilla wood, to low C. The Selmer design of Basset Horn differs radically from that of Buffet and Leblanc in that it is basically an extended Bb instrument. Thus it can be played with your usual Bb clarinet m'piece. Buffet and Leblanc Basset Horn designs are essentially modified Alto clarinets. This instrument was part of the collection of Paul Willey's late father. Paul is a well known violinist, formerly the leader of the Ulster Orchestra, BBC Welsh Orchestra, and associate leader of the CBSO.
This instrument is a one owner example and is in very good condition. It goes without saying that Basset Horns do not get heavy use, and this example, amateur owned, has been exceptionally well maintained. The Nickel Silver keywork is good and shows only slight wear, the plating is about 95%. There are two crooks both in excellent condition, one for use at A=440 the other A=442. The bell shows no damage, only light surface marks. We will replace pads as necessary, and swage and regulate the key work prior to sale. The instrument was photographed prior to going down to our Clarinets Direct workshop. The wood is in overall excellent condition with no cracks or repairs. Selmer is generally held to be the finest manufacturer in the world of harmony clarinets, and this instrument would retail today new for 9700. The matching Selmer serial nos. are C7294 which dates to 1984, when it was bought new. The m'piece is a used Selmer C85 120 in excellent condition, as is the original case.
