This is an extremely interesting and rare Bass clarinet, in Grenadilla wood to low Eb. Strasser, Marigaux, and Lemaire were makers specialising in professional, saxophones, oboes and clarinets. Today, as Marigaux, they survive as one of the World's finest oboe manufacturers. Lemaire was the clarinettist and this instrument is a rare Bass clarinet, which is stamped "Strasser Marigaux". Sadly Lemaire was the first of the founders of the company to die, so it is likely that this instrument was manufactured after his death; i.e. it dates to the early 1960's. This must have been made as a professional model featuring as it does: Articulated C#/G#, alternative LH Ab/Eb and compensating low G/D hole.
This Bass has had a complete Pisoni Premium Deluxe Tan Leather re-pad in our workshop, & is sold with our full 1 year warranty. All the German Silver key work has been buffed to a nice shine, and is in very good condition. The wood overall shows surface marks and scratches, in addition there is an old repaired crack to the upper portion of the upper joint: See photo 4, the crack has been pinned no less than 8 times, an excellent quality repair. There is also a smaller crack to the upper part of the lower joint, see photo 10. This has not been pinned, just filled. These are old stable repairs, which we have thoroughly checked in the workshop as part of the overhaul. There is also a dent to the crook. The bell is in good condition. In short this instrument is in poor cosmetic condition; but plays superbly, with an excellent tone. We have also fitted a floor peg attachment to the base of the bell. The case is in fair condition. The m'piece is an excellent Selmer C*.
