MATCHED PAIR OF HOWARTH S1 CLARINETS, £3295

An excellent condition pair of Howarth S1 clarinets, in Cocobolo wood, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. These instruments are a one owner pair, and were used by a University graduate to obtain his Music degree. The S1 was Howarths' original professional clarinet design with a bore of 14.85mm, and was greeted with much enthusiasm by many professional UK players, including Tony Pay. Subsequent designs were of smaller bore, and unfortunately Howarth no longer manufacture clarinets. The unstained Cocobolo wood is in very good condition, with only light surface marks, consistent with careful use, however there is either a section of coarse wood grain, or a tight surface crack to the upper joint of the Bb, see photo 10. If it is a crack, it does not go through to the bore, and it has been stable with regular playing over the last several years. There is no joint wobble. The instruments have just had a full and complete overhaul, in our Clarinets Direct workshop, and are sold with our 1 year warranty. The Silver plating throughout is excellent. The Bb has matching serial nos. are 1168, & the A, matching serial nos. 1160. The supplied m'pieces are both, unused, original Howarths. The tuning is excellent with these and also standard French bore m'pieces. The Orly case is well used, but fully functional.
