MATCHED PAIR OF SELMER RECITAL CLARINETS, £3395

A very fine matched pair of Selmer Recital clarinets in Silver plate. These instrument are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct, and have an impressive Provenance: The pair was bought initially by Leslie Craven, who used them for many years as Principal Clarinet of the Welsh National Opera Orchestra. Subsequently they were bought by a London based professional, who is now selling the pair. These instruments have seen much use, and the condition of the key work does reflect this, as it shows wear. The tuning and response are very fine, and they are outstanding examples of early Selmer Recitals.
The Bb has matching S/N D0467, and has mostly brand new tan leather pads. There is no damage to the wood, which is crack and repair free, apart from a filled surface crack to the 62.5mm barrel. The plating overall shows some loss to the ring finger touchpieces, in addition the LH F/C touchpiece has had a "criss-cross" pattern applied in the manner of a B&H 1010 instrument, see photo 7.   The A has matching S/N D0541, and has mostly used white leather pads. Again theer s no damage to teh wood, or any crack repairs, but like the Bb it shows wear to the ring finger plating. Both instruments have been to our workshop for a service, with key regulation and touch corks replaced as necessary All pieces are original and stamped Selmer, there are 4 barrels. The original barrels measure, 61.5mm, 62.5mm, 64.5mm and 64.5mm. The case is a BAM, it is used, but in good condition. The supplied m'piece is a Noblet, provided for play testing.
