SELMER PARIS, RECITAL Bb CLARINET, CHARLES COLLECTION, £1745

This is an excellent condition Selmer Paris Recital Bb Clarinet. This instrument has been professionally owned and played by a well known London Jazz player, who selected this instrument from several examples at the Selmer factory some years ago, whilst on a tour of France with the Glenn Miller tribute band. Unfortunately this player now faces a large inheritance tax bill, and a large part of his excellent selection of clarinets, and saxophones, must be sold. Selmer Recital clarinets are undoubtedly amongst the best designed French instruments worldwide. The upper joint features a large reversed cone which narrows to 14.4mm. This results in exceptionally accurate twelfths, and overall the intonation is superior to most other French designed instruments today.
The wood shows no cracks or damage, it is in perfect condition. All Silver plate is also in very good condition. The pads, whilst used, are all sealing well, and will be good for many months to come. The look and solid feel of this key work is far superior to most contemporary Buffet manufacture. The supplied barrels measure 62.5 mm & 64.5mm the matching serial numbers are M8529. The instrument is stamped 442 i.e. A=442. Whilst this the clarinet does play comfortably at A=442 with the shorter barrel [62.5mm], and Selmer m'pieces, the original owner played a Hite American m'piece, with the longer, 64.5mm barrel and the pitch falls to A=440. The case is an original Selmer in fair condition.
