This fine Buffet RC Bb clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct.
It is a one owner instrument.
When the American investor Martin Tolchin bought Buffet Crampon in the mid 1970's
he felt that though the R13 sold well in the USA,
different models would be more successful in Europe.
The S1, Continentale and BC20, which became the RC, were all attempts to make darker,
more focused sounding clarinets.
The RC, first introduced in 1975, did find much more favour in the UK,
than the R13: It had a more relaxed warm tone, which did attract many players.
This Bb has serial no. 174569 dating to 1977, thus it is one of the first RC's made, and additionally, has a UK stamp.
Generally Buffet RC's from this period are considered the best of their production.
The Prestige range had not been introduced yet; which considerably downgraded the quality of the standard,
R13 and RC,
and furthermore, Buffet considered the RC of this period their best model, and charged more for it than the contemporary R13.
Boosey & Hawkes had also not yet taken over Buffet and forced a large increase in production.
The wood is excellent throughout with no cracks, damage or repairs.
There is a no wear to the Nickel Silver plating, which is in pristine order.
The key regulation is tight and there is no joint wobble. The instrument has had a complete overhaul
& re-pad in Pisoni Premium Deluxe fish skin pads and is sold with a full years' Clarinets Direct warranty.
