This excellent Buffet R13 Prestige A clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. It is a one owner instrument, and was used whilst studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music, but thereafter has seen little or no use. After the 1981 take over by Boosey and Hawkes, the Prestige range represented an attempt by Buffet to recapture former high manufacturing and quality control standards. To that end the Prestige clarinet went back to the earlier specification: Unstained, hand selected Grenadilla wood was used, and more time was spent on hand finishing the instrument. In addition an additional Eb/Ab lever for the LH was fitted. This model features a re-designed bell with voicing groove. It is worth remembering that Buffet Crampon first came up with this idea in the 1990's; these days it is much copied by other manufacturers.
This A, serial no. 470273, was bought new in 2001, it is in near mint condition: The only reasons that I do not describe it as mint, are some scuffs to the case corners, and slight teethmarks to the beak of the Buffet m'piece. The instrument itself is in mint condition. The Silver plate throughout is in superb condition, with no wear. The instrument is padded throughout in Pisoni Premium Deluxe white leather pads, in "as new" condition. We have just replaced two tenon corks in the Clarinets Direct workshop and touch corks are in good shape also. The key regulation is very good. The original barrel is of 65.0mm. All stamps are bright an original and match on all parts. The case is the original in black leather with combination locks, there are couple of minor scuffs to the exterior corners, otherwise it is in very good condition.
