An excellent and rare Buffet/Hite R13 A clarinet. This instrument has an interesting provenance. It was bought new by Richard Addison, Clarinettist and Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, from the renowned mouthpiece maker, and clarinet craftsman, David Hite. Hite customised Buffet R13's improving tuning and response. These clarinets were then sold on at a large premium, as the instruments represented a substantial improvement over the standard Buffet R13 and R13 Prestige. Most were bought by professional players. Subsequently this instrument was sold to a busy and successful London player, who now works mainly in the West End.
This instrument has had extremely careful use, the Nickel Silver plated key work is very good order throughout. The wood is in excellent condition, without cracks or damage. The instrument is padded in tan leather with all pads in fine condition. The clarinet will be maintenance free for many months to come. The instrument has had a thorough "check down" in our workshop, and the key work has been re-aligned and regulated. All pieces are matching and original with Buffet stamps. The 2 supplied barrels are both Buffet Moennig, of 65mm and 66mm. Again this choice of tapered barrel helps improve intonation generally, especially around the throat. In fact Buffet Crampon acknowledged the success of Hans Moennig's design, and manufactured it under licence. The matching serial nos. are 403217 which dates to 1995. The supplied double case is an Orly in used condition, there are some interior stains, but it still zips up securely.
