BUFFET R13 A CLARINET, 1495

An excellent Buffet R13 A clarinet. This instrument was owned formerly by Stuart Allen, and selected for him especially by Edward [Ted] Planas, whilst Ted was working for J & L Dawkes. Ted also customised this R13 with an additional pillar midway along the long barrel of the RH rings, see photo 7. This was because Stuart had a tendency to rest his fingers on this long barrel, and this was done to prevent excessive movement or deformation of the key work. This R13 has been played in many professional performances, as Stuart was, for many years, a member of the clarinet section of the English National Ballet Orchestra. And as a successful freelance player he also worked with most of London's finest orchestras. Therefore this R13 A clarinet has had much use, and this is reflected in surface marks to the wood, as well as some key work tarnish. However, as one would expect from the provenance, this instrument is a superb example of an R13 A, the modern equivalent would be a carefully chosen Prestige.
The wood is in good condition, without cracks or damage. The Silver plated key work is also fine for its age, with only some minor tarnishing. We have just overhauled the instrument in finest Pisoni fish skin pads, and the clarinet is sold with our full 1 year warranty. All pieces are matching and original with Buffet stamps. The matching serial nos. are 212078 which dates to 1982. There are two supplied barrels, of 64mm and 66mm. The original Buffet double case shows scuffs to the exterior and interior wear, but latches securely.
