This is a good condition Selmer Paris Privilege A Clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The instrument is Selmer's flagship model. Selmer Privilege clarinets are undoubtedly amongst the best designed French instruments worldwide, featuring many improvements over other manufacturer's models. These include a metal tenon insert at the top of the lower joint and a sculpted rear touchpiece for the register key. Overall the impression is that the key work ergonomics are superb, and the design is built to withstand many years of professional use. The upper joint features a large reversed cone which narrows to 14.6mm. This results in exceptionally accurate twelfths, and overall the intonation is superior to most other French designed instruments today.
The wood is in good condition, but there is a teflon banded crack repair to the upper joint, see photo 4. The crack runs down into the throat A tone hole, and in addition to the exterior band, it has been glued internally. All the Silver plate key work is in pristine condition. The look and solid feel of the key work is far superior to most contemporary Buffet manufacture. The white leather pads, whilst used, are all sealing well, and will be good for many months to come. The lower pads feature metal reflectors for improved sound emmission. The 2 original Selmer barrels are of 65.5mm, & 65.5mm. The matching serial numbers are QO 5352. The Bags case is in good used condition.
