This is a matched pair of rare Boosey & Hawkes, pre-war 1010 clarinets, in mint condition.
Their current owner is the son of the celebrated pianist Michael Roll, the first winner of the Leeds Piano Competition.
Michael's son is
now making a career for himself as an actor.
The Bb has silver plated key work in pristine condition. The
instrument is in wood throughout, which is in superb condition.
The matching serial nos. on all main pieces, including the m'piece, are 34500,
which dates to 1939. There is absolutely no wear to this instrument at all; it is as
if it had just left the factory.
All pads are tan leather Pisoni, in very good condition. There is no joint wobble
or play in the mechanism.
The A, serial nos. 34564, also dates to 1939. Again every single piece is matching and serial numbered.
The wood is in superb condition, without even surface marks. Even the tone hole edges are still
sharp, as if the instrument has been hardly played.
The key work throughout is "as new". All pads are good condition
finest Pisoni tan leather.
The case is the original, and is still functional, there is a tape repair to the handle.
In summation: This is probably the latest & finest pair of Boosey & Hawkes pre-War 1010's available.
I understand that the original owner was a Doctor from Halifax, who gave the pair to Michael Roll
for his son to learn on.
