This is a unique and rare Prof. Romeo Orsi Bb clarinet which features interchangeable bells: One of which allows a low Eb, whereas the other is a standard bell allowing the instrument to sound low E as the lowest pitch. This clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct, having come to us from a retired professional who liked to collect rare and unusual instruments. Orsi, of Milan, were one of the most highly repected Italian makers.
From the look of the German Silver keywork this instrument appears to have been made between the two World Wars. The clarinet has several crack repairs, one to the barrel, and also to the larger, low Eb bell, which has a metal lined receiver tenon. There is also a small crack to the top of the lower joint, which only runs into the tenon, it does not affect the bore. We have checked all the repairs for seal thoroughly in our workshop. The pads are all used tan leather but sealing well. The serial numbers are 50585. The supplied m'piece is a mint condition B&H 926 Imperial which tunes this instrument well. The original case is much worn but functional.
