NOBLET ALTO CLARINET, £1195

Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's finest players amongst our clientele. One such is Paul Harvey: Paul is well known as the author of many pieces for clarinet and saxophone, as well as the "Saxophone" in the Yehudi Menuhin series of music guides. From time to time Paul sells part of his superb collection of instruments. He is fastidious in his choice of instruments which are carefully selected, and then meticulously maintained. This instrument was bought new from Bill Lewington in the 1960's. It is a veteran of numerous film and studio recordings, perhaps most famously it was used for the film soundtrack recording of Maurice Jarre's music for David Lean's "Ryans Daughter".
This is a very fine condition Noblet, Paris, Alto clarinet. The matching serial nos, are 5693. There are no dents, scratches or marks of any kind to the sleeved adjustable crook, and bell, which are in pristine condition. This instrument has one filled crack, see photo 6, the repair has been stable for over 40 years. The Nickel Silver plating shows light spot wear to the main finger touchpieces, the plating is about 95%. The instrument has leather pads throughout in very good condition. A unique floor spike attachment has been fitted to the bell though in fact, a sling is usually used, and is supplied. This instrument will play perfectly out of the box. A comparable Buffet retails today new for £5650. The Vandoren B44 m'piece is in excellent condition.
