Clarinets Direct is proud to announce that we will be selling off a portion of the late James Joseph's collection of rare and valuable clarinets. This is one of many listings.

This is a McIntyre system Bb Clarinet in Grenadilla wood. As a young man I remember speaking to Robert McIntyre and ordering one of these myself! Sadly McIntyre was never able to persuade a major manufacturer to back his "improvement" and though he managed to get his clarinet made in France, ultimately his company became bankrupt. For those unfamiliar with the fingering it works as follows: throat G# is fingered solely by the third finger of the LH; A by 3rd and 2nd fingers: Bb, by all three in the LH. Ingenious: In addition the Bb has it's own dedicated hole so the quality and pitch are improved. This example is playing very well, and has wood and keywork in excellent condition. It is a perfectly usable clarinet as is, or possibly one for a collector. The case is worn but fully functional. There is no mouthpiece but I found a standard Vandoren 5RV Lyre tuned it very well.
