This is an excellent condition Leblanc Basset Horn, model 315S, in Grenadilla wood, to low C, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. The current owner is a British collector who has had to sell off a large part of his superb collection due to redundancy. The Buffet and Leblanc Basset Horn designs are essentially modified Alto clarinets, the larger bore favours orchestral use. This instrument is in pristine condition: NO cracks, or damage, with pristine silver plated key work throughout. There are no scratches or dents to the crook or bell. The Basset Horn has white leather pads throughout in "as new" condition. A selection of tuning rings, for the crook, and a sling are included. This instrument will play perfectly out of the box, & the matching serial nos. are 10401. Somewhat bizarrely the serial number on the upper joint has been stamped upside down! It is possible that this was done by mistake at the Leblanc factory after a particularly long lunch break. The late Professor John Playfair related to me that his son worked for Leblanc in the 1970's, & that more than one bottle of Beaujolais with lunch was not uncommon. Therefore the best setting up was invariably done in the morning. It responds with a large even tone, ideal for Strauss Operas or, as Mike, has often used it, in the Mozart Requiem or Grand Partita for 13 Winds. A comparable Buffet retails today new for 7000. The Vandoren 5RV m'piece is in mint condition, and the key to the case is also included.
