A fine example of a Leblanc LL clarinet with 7 rings, i.e. enhanced Boehm system. Leon was a gifted clarinettist, who though he took the top performing prize at the Paris Conservatoire as a young man, chose to stay with the family business, and apply himself to instrument manufacture. He was determined to bringing acoustical, mechanical, and musical improvements to woodwind instruments. Although Leblanc's instruments were almost entirely handmade, Leon Leblanc insisted that the craftsmen follow careful measurements. "Music is an art, but it is still governed by the laws of science," he declared (Music Trades, July 1996). As a result, Leblanc instruments were more consistent than those that had come before. The company continued to strive for consistent quality, ease of playability, and mechanical innovation, throughout its history. The LL model, named for Leon, was, some feel, the pinnacle of this achievement. This Bb is in good condition and has just had an overhaul prior to sale, it has matching serial nos. 33870. The 7 ring mechanism allows for a fork Eb/Bb in the LH. It is in Nickel Silver plate, and there is slight wear to the throat G# key, A key, and the low RH "pinky" keys. The plating is about 95%. The pads are finest tan leather throughout in excellent condition, as are all touch and tenon corks. There are 2 supplied barrels; the original Leblanc, of 66mm and a shorter barrel of 59mm. The case is a new Champion, and the supplied used Vandoren 5RV m'piece is in excellent condition.
