A rare matched pair of Boosey & Hawkes, London & Paris, pre-war 1010 clarinets in good condition.
Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's
leading clarinettists amongst our Clientele, one such is Gary Holdsworth, who has owned
and played this pair for the last several years. Gary was Principal Clarinet for Moscow
City Ballet, and his father, Frank, was also a famous 1010 clarinet player, and
Principal Clarinet of the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.
The London & Paris 1010 model, as the name suggests, was made for B&H in France.
The clarinets have two matching serial nos. one stamped by the manufacturer, and the other by Boosey & Hawkes.
The Bb has serial nos. 2159/1377. The
instrument is in wood, which is in overall good condition, apart from the bell which is in ebonite.
All pieces are matching and serial numbered apart from the barrel.
The key work has been plated in Chrome at some point in the past, and apart from
some minor signs of wear to the RH "pinky" keys the plating is good throughout.
The instrument has tan leather pads throughout in very good condition.
The A has serial nos. 2266/1432. The
instrument is in wood, which is in overall good condition, apart from the barrel which is in ebonite.
All pieces are matching and serial numbered apart from the bell, which though of
the correct type, and stamped Boosey & Hawkes, is of later manufacture.
The key work is also Chrome plated and is very good throughout.
The instrument has tan leather pads throughout in very good condition.
The case is a Protech in good condition, and the mouthpiece, though not original is a B&H No. 2 1010 bore
and tunes the pair well.
