This is a good condition Boosey and Hawkes Imperial, Eb Clarinet, in ebonite, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. It is likely that this was used by the military in the past, as, usually, ebonite instruments were made for outdoor use.
The Nickel Silver plated key work shows much wear, with all the ring fingers affected, as well as some of the other keys. However the key work is well regulated, an all tenon corks are new. The ebonite body is in very good condition, and the barrel is actually of Grenadilla wood. The instrument has fish skin pads throughout, which are in excellent condition, with many new, and the instrument should be maintenance free for some time to come. The serial nos. are 226707, which dates to 1963. The mouthpiece is in good condition. It plays comfortably with Vandoren No. 3 or 2.5 reeds. The case is a brand new. In summation this Eb would suit a professional player on a budget, as it is a top professional model at a student price.
