BOOSEY & HAWKES IMPERIAL Eb CLARINET, £1895

This is a very good condition Boosey and Hawkes Imperial, Eb Clarinet in Grenadilla wood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This Eb has a fine provenance, having been selected at the B&H factory from new, and played professionally in London by David Rix, Principal Clarinet of the City of London Sinfonia for many years. The instrument has been used in the following Orchestras: Philharmonia, London Sinfonietta, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, etc.
The Silver plated key work shows only slight wear, mainly to the LH Ring 2 it is in good condition throughout. There are no cracks or repairs to the wood, which is in very good condition, excepting one minor chip to the bell rim, see photo 8. The instrument has just been overhauled in fish skin pads by a repairer local to Dave Rix. The serial nos. are 431148, which dates to 1975. The RH sliver key has been shortened to a button touch piece, to avoid accidental contact in fast passage work. The mouthpiece is a B&H original, in excellent condition. It plays comfortably with Vandoren No. 3 or 3.5 reeds. The case is again original, in good condition. In summation this Eb plays well, and with excellent intonation.
