BOOSEY & HAWKES IMPERIAL Eb CLARINET, MITCHELL COLLECTION, 1845

This is a very good condition Boosey and Hawkes Imperial, Eb Clarinet in Grenadilla wood, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. This Eb has a fine provenance, having been owned and played professionally in London by Douglas Mitchell, second clarinet of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for many years, and faculty member of the Royal College of Music & Birmingham Conservatoire.
The Silver plated key work shows only slight wear, it is in good condition throughout. There are no cracks or repairs to the wood, which is in very good condition. The instrument has just been overhauled in fish skin pads and is sold with our 1 year warranty. The serial nos. are 439232. The clarinet as undergone much after market improvement: Both sliver keys have been shortened to avoid accidental contact in fast passage work. The wood underneath the speaker key has been hollowed out slightly for improved venting and LH thumb position. Tuning work has been undertaken to improve the intonation. The mouthpiece is a B&H original. It plays comfortably with Vandoren No. 3 or 3.5 reeds. The case is again original, in good condition. In summation this Eb plays well, and with excellent intonation.
