A fair condition Selmer Paris Recital Bb Clarinet, which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct.
Selmer Recital clarinets are undoubtedly amongst the best designed clarinets
worldwide.
The upper joint features a large reversed cone which narrows to 14.4mm. This results in exceptionally accurate twelfths, and
overall the intonation is superior to most other French instruments sold today.
The original, and sole former owner of this instrument, has
had Eddie Ashton superpads fitted throughout,
which are sealing well. He also had Ashton remove the
alternative Eb/Ab LH lever, and modify the pin linkage mechanism at
the bottom of the LH F#/C# LH lever, see photo 9.
All Silver plate is in good condition,
and indeed the look and solid feel of this key work is far superior to contemporary Buffet manufacture.
In addition to the modifications to the key work, the instrument also has repairs to the Grenadilla wood.
The upper joint has been pinned several times in the past, there are 8
different points on the wood surface where filler has been applied, which
would indicate 4 pins in total. In addition, there are 4 surface cracks to the
upper joint. one into the first trill key hole, one midway between this and another which runs into the
speaker tube, and another which runs into and through the right hand register key pillar,
see photo 11. Apart from this last crack, all the others have been filled.
The instrument has been down to the Clarinets Direct workshop for
a thorough "check down". All crack repairs are sealing well, and the touch corks,
and regualtion have been attended to as necessary.
The supplied Selmer barrels measure 62.5 mm & 64.5mm. The 62.5mm barrel has also cracked and been filled.
The matching serial numbers are D1134, which dates to 1984.
The supplied m'piece is an ebonite Leblanc, and the
case is a brand new Venus.
