This Buffet Festival Bb clarinet is in excellent condition, with only slight wear to the stamps and silver key plating to distinguish it from new. The instrument has been owned by a student at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and has been extremely well cared for. The Festival is based firmly on the R13 Prestige, with the register key tube slightly higher, and adjustments to the upper and lower bore flares to compensate. This type of alteration had in fact been suggested to Buffet in the late 1960's by Moennig, Morgan, and Gigliotti: The result is improved intonation and evenness to the second register, which has meant the Festival is a firm favourite amongst professional players.
The Bb has serial no. 443913, dating to 1998. The wood, which is unstained, hand selected Grenadilla, is in overall excellent condition, with no cracks or repairs. The Silver plate shows only slight wear commensurate with careful use. The original thumb rest has been replaced with a Kooiman. The clarinet has finest Pisoni white leather pads throughout, which are all in very good condition, and will not need replacing for some time. All corks, tenon and touch, are also good. There are 2 supplied barrels of 65.0mm, & 64.0mm. Both are genuine Buffet stamped Festival barrels. The m'piece is a Vandoren B40 in good used condition. The case is a Selmer, which is, likewise, in good condition.
