BUFFET CRAMPON FESTIVAL Bb CLARINET, £1895

This Buffet Festival Bb clarinet is in very good condition, with only slight wear to the stamps and tenon corks to distinguish it from new. The instrument has been professionally owned and played, here in London's West End, it has been extremely well cared for. He bought this instrument new from Howarths, 4 years ago, it subsequently cracked in the upper joint, see photo 6. Howarth's then pinned and repaired the crack, and also bushed the throat A hole. He used it for a further 2 years before trading up to a Rossi American bore clarinet. The Festival is based firmly on the R13 Prestige, with the register key tube slightly higher, and adjustments to the upper and lower bore flares to compensate. This type of alteration had in fact been suggested to Buffet in the late 1960's by Moennig, Morgan, and Gigliotti: The result is improved intonation and evenness to the second register, which has meant the Festival is a firm favourite amongst professional players.
