This is a rare Eb Piccolo clarinet by F A Uebel which is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct.
It has been owned and professionally played here in the West Country.
This instrumemnt demonstrates a low G/D vent for improved sonority and intonation. This vent is especially
useful in the Altissimo register for the Eb clarinettist, as it tends to make this register sharper.
F A Uebel was acknowledged as one of the finest harmony clarinet makers in the world, and,
in fact, supplied Basset Horns to the clarinettists of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
The stamp reads " F Arthur Uebel, Marknuekirchen".
This instrument is in very good condition: NO cracks, or damage, to the Grenadilla wood.
The silver plated key work is very good throughout. There are a few slight
marks to the wood surface, apart from this the wood condition is perfect.
The key work design is beautifully angled and of generous proportions, ideal for the player used to
the Bb clarinet "feel". The mechanism features a grub screw into
most pillars to stop lateral movement and poor regulation, the build quality and
workmanship are much superior to contemporary mass manufacture, as this is of high quality, handmade,
The Eb has white leather pads
which though elderly are all sealing well. The instrument has been through our workshop for regulation, and
a thorough check down.
The instrument is stamped "Made in GDR".
The serial nos. are 811-791067,
this may indicate a manufacturing date of 1967. This Eb plays with excellent intonation, and a smooth dark sound.
For a player seeking to blend well with other clarinets and avoid the "shrill" sound sometimes found in
other Eb clarinets, it would make an excellent purchase.
The original m'piece and case are in very good condition.
