MATCHED PAIR OF DORE CLARINETS, £795

These are an extremely interesting and rare pair of professional model clarinets, in Grenadilla wood, manufactured by Dore, Paris, France. They have come to us as a commission sale from an amateur player, he purchased these instruments as a pair in the 1970's. From the look of the German silver key work, and its design, it is likely that the instruments were made in either the late 1930's or just post war.
The Bb clarinet has tan leather pads throughout in good order. The matching serial nos. are 2285 All the German Silver key work exhibits a nice shine, and is in good condition. The wood overall shows light surface marks and scratches, there is one tight surface crack to the upper joint, which does not go through to the bore. The instruments have gone down to our workshop for a thorough "check down", and all corks and the regulation are in good order. All pieces are stamped, matching, and original. The A clarinet has tan leather pads throughout which are elderly, but sealing well. The matching serial nos. are 2514. All the German Silver key work shows a patina consistent with its age but is in good condition. The wood overall shows light surface marks and scratches, but there are no cracks or repairs. In addition to the originai two barrels, which have no cracks, there is a Boosey and Hawkes Emperor barrel which was used to tune the A clarinet, this does have a repaired surface crack. The case is an Ortola in very good condition. The m'piece is a Portnoy BPO2. In summation: These clarinets represents superb value for money, they play extremely well, with a lovely sonority.
