This is an extremely rare Couesnon, C clarinet. Couesnon were at one time one of the largest instrument manufactures in the world. They were rather like a French equivalent of Boosey & Hawkes, in that their biggest customer was the French military. They were also well known for Brass instruments. I believe they ceased manufacture in the 1960's. At their peak the Couesnon Monople was endorsed by the eminent French clarinettist Auguste Perrier, and the Monopole Conservatoire model was considered one of the finest French clarinets in the inter-war years.
The wood condition overall is very fine, with only minor surface marks. All the pieces of the instrument are matching and original, and made from finest Grenadilla, apart from the bell, which is in ebonite. There are NO cracks or repairs. The German silver key work is in excellent condition. This C will have a complete overhaul in double bladder fish skin pads, and is sold with our 1 year warranty. NB The instrument has been photographed prior to going into the workshop. The m'piece is the original, on a Chedeville blank, and plays with good intonation at A=440Hz. Though this C will play with any standard Bb clarinet m'piece, e.g. a Vandoren. The case is the original, in good condition, as it has been well protected by the dust jacket.
