CONN PAN-AM IN COCOBOLO, Bb CLARINET, £695

A good condition Conn Pan -American Clarinet in Cocobolo wood which is has just had full overhaul in Pisoni double bladder fishskin pads, and is sold with our full Clarinets Direct 1 year warranty. This instrument was an ingenious solution by Conn to the scarcity of Grenadilla wood during, and just after, the Second World War. A similar wood was used in the manufacture of WWII Bomber Propellers', hence the nick name; "Propeller wood clarinet". This is a wide bore clarinet; primarily aimed at the Jazz market, it plays with a warm and flexible sound. Whilst Benny Goodman endorsed Selmer clarinets, Artie Shaw endorsed wide bore Conn instruments. The main body of the wood is in fine shape for it's age with no cracks or damage. There are, however, some slight chips to the outer rim of the upper joint lower tenon. The keywork is in good condition, with only tiny spot plating wear to the throat A , G# key and register key, see photos 6 & 11. The  serial no. is 140285.  The m'piece is in good used condition. The case is the original Conn, it latches well but shows wear to the interior lining.
