This is a Selmer Paris, Centered Tone, Bb clarinet, which is a commission sale for
Clarinets Direct. The Centered Tone was the penultimate large
bore Jazz Selmer clarinet, only the Series 9 was larger.
Thereafter Selmer switched to making smaller bore clarinets more in the manner of Buffet.
This Bb clarinet has matching serial nos. Q5224, which dates to 1955.
The instrument has German Silver key work in very good condition, there is no wear, and the key work
shows a bright finish.
The wood shows surface marks and scratches, consistent with careful use. There are no cracks
or repairs, however the lowest tenon
of the upper joint has been re-bushed in ebonite to stop joint wobble.
The instrument was professionally owned and played, and it has been well maintained.
The thumb rest has been replaced with a modern adjustable one, with the screw holes for the original
left unfilled.
The pads throughout are all brand new Pisoni finest fish skin.
The instrument has been down to our Clarinets Direct workshop
for a complete overhaul, and, unusually for a commission sale, it is sold with our full 1 year warranty.
As is the case with all Selmer Centered Tones the upper joint bore is a reverse taper, it measures,
15.2mm at the top of the upper joint narrowing to 14.8mm at the bottom.
The barrel is from a later Selmer Series 10, and measures 66.5mm
The m'piece is a jazz model, Selmer F, with a wide tip opening.
The original case is a "Bags" in good used condition, which comes with back pack carry straps.
This clarinet would pair well with No. 48.
