MATCHED PAIR OF YAMAHA SE VINTAGE CUSTOM CLARINETS, 1945

A good condition pair of Yamaha SE-VINTAGE CUSTOM clarinets, which are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. Their former owner is a professional sax and clarinet player, who liked this pair because of their excellent intonation and even scale. It is received wisdom within the music industry that when Yamaha launch a new product, they will have made every conceivable effort to outdo their competitors, at a considerabily cheaper price to the customer. So it was in the 2000's, when Yamaha with the collaboration of Claude Faucomprez, began manufacture of the Custom CS-V and SE-V range. The wood was unstained matched Grenadilla, the silver plate, and key work, was of considerably better quality than Buffet. Many players found the ease with which these instruments responded completely won them over. The specification matched the top Buffet Prestige models, with these instruments even having voicing grooves in the bell, however the price was on a par with standard Buffet professional models
The instruments have no cracks or damage to the wood, which is finest aged, unstained, Grenadilla. The Bb S/N 05083, has a mixture of mainly fish skin pads with some tan leather. Though all pads are sealing well now, some will need replacing in the near future. The Silver plated key work is very good throughout, with no discernable wear, only light surface scratches. The A, S/N 01354, has had less use than the Bb. The double bladder fish skin pads, whilst not new, are all sealing well. All touch and tenon corks are good. There is no joint wobble. The supplied m'pieces is a Custom 4C in ebonite. The case is fully functional, but shows some rust to the catches.
