BUFFET C CLARINET, £1495 |
|||||||
A very rare and fine early professional Buffet C clarinet. The Grenadilla wood and German Silver key work are in superb condition, and it is obvious from inspection that this instrument has had little use. The wood shows no cracks or damage. All main pieces are matching and original; the only slight blemish is a nick to the middle tenon ring, see photo 10. The instrument has just had a full repad with Pisoni Premium Deluxe fish skin pads in our workshop, and is sold with our full 1 year warranty. The S/N 1S417 dates to 1925. The m'piece is a brand new Pillinger, which is a copy of an original Carl Fischer "Steel Ebonite" mouthpiece. This type of mouthpiece was originally supplied with Buffet clarinets in the USA at that time to play at A=440Hz. The tip opening is slightly under 1mm and the lay is about 17.5mm. In terms of the interior bore the m'piece shows a remarkable resemblance to a modern Zinner blank. So therefore this C will play well with most modern American sourced m'pieces or a Vandoren M model. The intonation and response of this C are superb: The instrument is stable in terms of tuning and remarkably even across the registers. The tone is mellow and full. The case is a not original to the clarinet, but protects the clarinet well. |
