G LEBLANC, BASSET HORN in F, £4245

Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's finest players amongst our clientele. One such is Paul Harvey: Paul is well known as the author of many pieces for clarinet and saxophone, as well as the "Saxophone" in the Yehudi Menuhin series of music guides. From time to time Paul sells part of his superb collection of instruments. He is fastidious in his choice of instruments which are carefully selected, and then meticulously maintained. This instrument was bought new from Bill Lewington in the 1960's. It is a veteran of numerous film and studio recordings, and was particularly featured in the Carey Blyton's 1970 TV soundtrack to W Somerset Maugham's "Footprints in the Jungle". It has also been used for numerous performances of the Mozart 13 Wind Serenade and Requiem.
This is a superb Basset Horn in Grenadilla wood, to low C. The Buffet and Leblanc Basset Horn designs are essentially modified Alto clarinets. This instrument is in mint condition: NO cracks, marks or damage, pristine key work throughout. An additional short, sleeved and adjustable, crook is supplied, for Mozart Requiem work in extremely cold churches! The Bassset Horn has leather pads throughout in very good condition. A unique floor spike is included which screws together to provide a decent length, a sling is also supplied. This instrument will play perfectly out of the box. A comparable Buffet retails today new for £7000. The Vandoren 5RV m'piece is in excellent condition.
