These Selmer Series 9* clarinets are in very good condition, and have come to
us as a commission sale from an amateur UK player who is the original and sole owner.
The 9* was marketed by Selmer as "pour la musique symphonique",
the 9 was "pour le jazz et les varietes." In other words the slightly smaller bore 9*,
with undercutting, was aimed at the classical market, the wide bore 9 at the Jazz market.
The Bb clarinet has serial
nos., Y7892 which dates to 1975. Whilst under manufacturers warranty the original top joint of the Bb cracked,
and it was replaced by Selmer. There are no cracks or repairs to the Grenadilla wood,
only a slight chip to the outer edge of the lowest joint tenon, see photo 9,
this has no effect on the response, and is completely hidden when the instrument is assembled.
The wood condition throughout is very fine. Both clarinets have had the thumb rests re-positioned higher,
we have returned the thumb rests to their original place, but left the screw holes unfilled,
so that they will be easy to move again, should the new owner wish the higher position.
The Nickel Silver plating is good throughout, with only slight wear to the ring fingers.
The instruments have just had a full overhaul in the Clarinets Direct workshop in
Pisoni fish skin pads, and are sold with our 1 year warranty.
The A clarinet, matching serial nos. Y6953, again dates to 1975.
The plating is excellent throughout.
The instrument shows no evidence of
cracks or repairs. There are 2 Selmer barrels, of 64.5mm and 66.5mm.
The case is an original Selmer which is fully
functional, but does show scuffs to the exterior and stains to the interior.
This interior, though fixed solidly within the case, has moved slightly from its original
position. The keys are included. The m'piece is a used Vandoren 5RV.
