Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's professional players amongst our clientele. The sole former owner of this superb instrument, is Peter Ripper, a onetime member of the London Sax Quartet, and well known as a Sax and Clarinet player. Pete has decided to retire from Clarinet playing, and we will be offering a selection of his instruments for sale. This clarinet was hand selected and thereafter only lightly used as a "doubling" instrument. The 9* was marketed by Selmer as "pour la musique symphonique", the 9 was "pour le jazz et les varietes." In other words the slightly smaller bore 9*, with undercutting, was aimed at the classical market, the wide bore 9 at the Jazz market.
This A clarinet has matching serial nos., X8540 which dates to 1969. The Nickel Silver plating is excellent throughout, with no discernable wear. The pads are all fish skin, and the instrument has been down to our workshop for a partial service, with pads replaced as necessary. There are no cracks or repairs, the Grenadilla wood is in excellent condition. All pieces are matching and original. The case is elderly but fully functional, the keys are included.
