This pair of B&H 1010's are a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. Unusually the Bb of this pair has been worked on by Geoffrey Acton, the inventor of the Acton patent vent. An invoice is included with the sale, which gives details of a replacement top joint for the Bb. This was personally tuned and set up by Acton who, as head designer for Boosey and Hawkes, was the foremost authority on 1010s.
The Bb, serial no. 530239, has a replacement top joint, as mentioned above this has a crack repair by Acton, and this has been stable for 23 years. The tuning and response are excellent. All tan leather pads are "as new", as are the touch and tenon corks. The Silver plate is very good. Both instruments feature the late version of the Acton patent vent, for improved tuning in the RH. The A, serial no. 460685, has no cracks or repairs. The Silver plate throughout is in excellent shape, as are all Pisoni Tan Leather pads and corks. There are 3 barrels of 64.5mm, 62.5mm, and for extremely cold weather, 56mm. The supplied m'piece is a used Boosey & Hawkes No. 1. The case is the modern back pack example, in excellent condition.
