This B&H 1010 Bb is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's finest players amongst our clientele. One such is Tom Kelly: ex-Principal Clarinet of London Symphony Orchestra and Welsh National Opera Orchestra. Towards the end of his carrer Tom found himself much in demand as a session player for TV and Film, and it for this work that this particular instrument was used. All of Tom's clarinets are carefully selected and often undergo further after market improvements. Typically this involve correcting intonation faults and improving the evenness of the scale, which accounts for the partial filling of several tone holes on this instrument. Thus when his instruments are offered back to the market they are immeasurably improved on standard production line B&H 1010s.
The Bb, serial no. 371596, has silver plate keywork throughout in very good condition. All Gordon Beeson tan leather pads are in good condition, as are the touch and tenon corks. The instrument has gone down to our workshop for a partial overhaul, with pads ,touch corks, and tenon corks replaced as necessary. [N B The clarinet was photographed prior to going into the workshop.] The instrument features the late version of the Acton patent vent, for improved tuning in the RH. The instrument has cracked, and has been pinned 4 times in the upper joint in teh area around the logo, see photo 4. The crack repair is old and stable, and, as mentioned above, the instrument was used in a very demanding professsional setting, i.e. the recording studio, for several years by Tom Kelly. The supplied m'piece is a Boosey & Hawkes No. 2 in good condition. The case is an original B&H, in fair condition.
