Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's finest professional players amongst our clientele. The former owner of this fine 1010 Bb clarinet, is one such; Michael Pearce. Michael left the RCM, before completing his studies, taking up the position of Principal Clarinet with Welsh National Opera. After a short time he joined the Philharmonia, as co-Principal clarinet and Eb. He finished his long and successful career as Principal Clarinet of the BBC Concert Orchestra, a post from which he recently retired. We are indeed fortunate to be able to offer his large collection of instruments to discerning clarinettists.
This is a Symphony 1010 Bb in good condition, featuring the later Acton Patent Vent. The matching serial numbers are 536551, which dates to 1982, making this a very late example. The clarinet has tan leather pads throughout which are all in good condition. The key work has been oiled and regulated in our workshop, touch and tenon corks replaced as necessary, and all spring tensions adjusted for optimum feel. The Silver plate key work overall is good, with only slight wear to the throat A key. This instrument was Mike's preferred Bb of recent years. The wood overall is also in good condition, but there is a repaired pinned crack to the upper joint. The repair is old and stable, the clarinet having seen much use, see photo 4. The m'piece is a Vandoren 1010 model 5RV in mint condition. The supplied barrel is of 63mm, it has been custom re-lined and sleeved in ebonite for more accurate tuning. The tuning and overall response of this clarinet are excellent. The case is a brand new example of carry strap type.
