This Bb B&H 1010 clarinet is a commission sale for Clarinets Direct. Clarinets Direct is fortunate to count many of the UK's finest players amongst our clientele. One such is Tony Lamb: ex-Principal Clarinet of English National Opera. From time to time Tony sells part of his superb collection of 1010 instruments as he makes room for further acquistions; in the elusive search for the "perfect" 1010! All of Tony's clarinets are carefully selected and often undergo further expensive after market improvements by T. W. Howarth & Co. Typically this involve correcting intonation faults and improving the evenness of the scale. Thus when his instruments are offered back to the market they are immeasurably improved on standard production line B&H 1010s.
This Bb, with matching serial nos. 446937, has wood throughout in very good condition, apart from the bell rim, which shows some slight scuffs. All tan leather pads are in good condition, as are the touch and tenon corks, the instrument has only recently come back from Howarths after a service and tuning work. The Silver plate shows no wear it is excellent throughout. For the last several years this instrument has been Tony's spare Bb. This clarinet features the late version of the Acton patent vent, for improved tuning in the RH. The thumb rest has been re-positioned slightly higher and the old screw holes filled. The m'piece is an original Boosey & Hawkes No. 2 in very good condition, & case is in fair used condition, with some stains to the inetrior.
