J C DENNER CLARINET, RECONSTRUCTION BY ACKERMAN. £POA |
|||||||
This is a unique clarinet. It is a faithful reproduction of the first clarinet ever made, by Johann Christian Denner in approximately 1690. The instrument was made for Alan Hacker by Brian Ackerman in the 1970's, and this instrument can quite rightly be seen as the start of a reproduction industry which went on to stimulate a revival of interest and an era of period instrument performance. The clarinet has 2 brass keys, is in boxwood and has three main pieces. The reed, a modern soprano sax reed can be cut down to fit, is attached to the mouthpiece by string. The approximate length is 50cm and the instrument plays in the key of C. The bore is cylindrical and measures 14.60mm. A is approximately 423Hz. |
